Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
|
When suspicions cannot be satisfied with digital mammography, the Center offers stereotactic breast biopsy. As an alternative to invasive surgical procedures, this simple and safe procedure is performed by our team of board certified surgeons and certified breast imaging specialists. The stereotactic biopsy procedure uses advanced computer imaging technology to map the precise location of the area of interest that was seen on the mammogram.
During the procedure, the breast surgeon removes a small section of the suspicious tissue with pinpoint accuracy. The sample is sent to our pathologists for analysis. The entire procedure lasts approximately one hour. If surgical intervention is required, our board-certified breast and plastic surgeons perform procedures including biopsy, augmentation and reconstructive surgery.
